During James’ first career as a commercial pilot, a wealthy relative with complex financial needs fell ill and asked James to manage his financial affairs. James began attending meetings on his behalf – and was startled by the absence of collaboration among financial services. James recognized the need for comprehensive wealth management. He started studying financial planning in his spare time, and a prosperous career in financial planning and wealth management was born.
James founded two firms – Secrest Blakey & Associates, a financial planning, insurance, and investment management practice; and Davidson Accounting, a tax planning and accounting practice – to provide coordinated services for his clients. His rare “one stop shop” paired with his competence and candor drew hundreds of families to his businesses, whom he was honored to serve for 20 years.
In 2016, James founded CAV_OK Family Office to provide high-touch service to select ultra-high net worth families with complex financial needs. James builds deep relationships with our clients for whom he can be trustworthy and wise.
James is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ and Enrolled Agent. He is Chairman of the Board of the Harvest Center of Charlotte and a member of the Foundation for the Carolinas Professional Cabinet of Advisors.
James enjoys spending time with his wife, three grown children, and his grandson. He is an avid sports spectator and attends Panthers and Hornets games with family and friends. He is also a long-time runner and former triathlete. James lives with his wife in Davidson, NC.
